I was despondent after that visit. Probably the closest I’ve ever been to suicide. I didn’t have money for the next mortgage payment, so I had no idea where I would find money for a hospital bed. I considered driving my car into a tree on the way home because I had reached a point where it all seemed unbearable and now I wasn’t going to be able to buy a damn bed because we were out of money. The only thing that saved me was that I had a sick dog at home.
